Visit to Torfs

At the invitation of Safeshops, a Belgian quality label for online stores, we visited the distribution center of the Belgian shoe company Torfs. The day started with several very interesting guest speakers.

Ingenico ePayment

Nicolas Bumba Malanda, Channel Manager at Ingenico ePayments, gave us some tips on how to prepare for peak sales moments. We’re happy to share what we learned: create your own peak sales moment, make sure everything is optimized for mobile sales, dare to go international, ensure you can handle sudden growth, and be different from others! As a fulfilment partner, we’re happy to pass these tips on to our customers. As you can see, this mainly concerns the digital and strategic side of the sales process. Do you want to prepare for a peak moment or create one yourself? Then get in touch with our digital marketing partner, Digital Natives.

PostNL

Dries Jaspers, Sales Director at PostNL, gave a presentation on the use of Fashionpack. Fashionpack is a type of packaging that allows clothing packages to be sent via regular mail because it fits in your mailbox!

Why use such a system? 50% of fashion orders fit through the mailbox, so the customer doesn’t need to be home, delivery is within 24 hours, it’s delivered CO2-neutral, there’s Track & Trace up to the door, and last but not least: cost-effective shipping rates. The Fashionpack is waterproof, has a return strip, is extra sturdy, and features a vacuum system. We are considering adding this to our packaging materials range.

Tour of Torfs Distribution Center

After the presentations, we were given a tour of Torfs’ distribution center. We discovered the distribution process and the work atmosphere. It quickly became clear that the company is solid!

As a fulfilment partner, it was particularly educational to see how a large company like Torfs organizes and reorganizes its logistics. There is constant focus on efficiency and optimization, but employee wellbeing is never overlooked. We kept our eyes open and tried to learn as much as possible about product codes, warehouse locations, shipping methods, automation, flows, logistics processes, packaging materials, etc. For example, Torfs tries to use recognizable packaging materials. The company uses very sturdy yellow packaging boxes. This creates a “WOW” feeling and Torfs aims to build recognition.
